Twitter Cofounders Unviel New ‘Medium’ Service
Twitter cofounders have announced a brand new publishing platform called Medium.
Obvious Corp unveiled the new platform at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference this week. Twitter cofounders Evan Williams and Biz Stone introduced the platform stating that Medium will combine “the aesthetic appeal of well-designed print publications with the flexibility of digital publishing.”
What is Medium?
Currently in invitation-only beta testing, Medium is a blogging platform fully integrated into the Twitter infrastructure. It will work sort of like Blogger or WordPress combined with Pinterest and a few Twitter enhancements.
The service will allow you to recommend blogs and posts by simply clicking a button. You will also be able to either submit your own conten, or collaborate with others.
Medium was designed from the ground up to emphasize content. Because of this, Medium is more of a curated, crowd-sourced content aggregator than a pure blogging platform. Any content submitted to the service gets organized into pre-existing categories based on theme and content type and listed based on rank. Users will then be able to find what they want by searching the site.
In this way, Medium as a platform feels like something akin to the now defunct Photovine service having a similar purpose as Svbblt with the flexibility of Tumblr.
It has turned out to be more than just the photo capturing tool that served as its placeholder for the last few weeks, and that’s a good thing. The service may still havea long way to go before it can challenge other social media sites, but the future looks promising.
